Jill was born right here in Clarksville, Tennessee. She married Phillip (Phil) Whittinghill in 1962 after completing two years of college. Phil enlisted in the U.S. Army and they lived the better part of the next three years in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where their first daughter, Lacy, was born. They returned to Clarksville in late 1965 and increased their family by two, a second daughter, Lyn and son, Phillip, Jr. In 1969 they began a remarkable Nomadic life making their home in Charlotte, Tennessee, Anchorage, Alaska, Teaneck, New Jersey and then back to Clarksville for good. The now have five grandchildren. Jill returned to college when her youngest child was in first grade. She graduated magna cum laude from Austin Peay State University with a BS in Business in 1978. In 2005, after 25 years of employment, she retired from First Federal Savings Bank as Vice President of Loan Servicing. Music has been a major part of Jill’s life from the time she was six years old. She studied piano, voice and organ with private instructors. In addition she loves the theatre and has both acted in and directed many plays in various venues including Madison Street United Methodist Church, The Roxy Regional Theatre and The Cumberland Arts Theatre. She is a member of The Choristers Guild, Middle Tennessee Chapter. Music and the theatre have been her avocations all of her adult life. Her history in church music includes pianist, organist, Director of adult and children’s choirs, Associate and Interim Director of Music Ministries, Director of children’s musical productions and Director of Christmas theatrical productions such as “Miracle on 34th Street.” She has served as the Director of Music Ministries at Sango UMC since March, 2011.
