I have been reflecting and evaluating where we have been and where we are going. We have been active in connecting people to Jesus, the church and the community. We have strived to offer places and opportunities for people and families to grow in their faith through preaching, teaching, prayer, study and service. The foundation has been laid and we now must build upon this foundation. I am excited about the addition to the church staff of Cindy Buis as our Director of Christian Education. Cindy brings experience, love of God and His people as well as the ability to get things done. We must and we will make a greater commitment to our youth and the youth ministries. While it is true we have been supporting them we now will be moving into a new and larger role of growing out youth spiritually. In the year 2017 we will turn to a unprecedented form of support as we will make it a priority that every youth that desires to attend one of our camps, Beersheba Springs, Cedar Crest or a Fall retreat may go even if we as a body of Christ needs to foot 100% of the bill. I firmly believe these camps and the experiences had while attending them are life changing. We are in the business of changing lives! We pour resources into facilities for our youth to have a place of their own that will be a place of safety and pride that will have each youth longing to be in the house of God. Warmth N Winter will continue to be a major destination of the calendar year and opportunities for each youth to serve God with their hands and feet will be a major part of what we do as a local body of Christ. Yes we do currently go on a yearly Mission Trip and help in other areas of our community but as we invest our time and resources into our youth we must also allow them to put their faith into action in an ongoing manner. I have had many conversations with Cindy and I find myself very impressed with her understanding and desire to help all of our youth and church family to grow in their faith and mature as followers of Jesus Christ. So, buckle up and get prepared as we are embarking upon a time in the life of Sango UMC that will be remembered for decades to come as the beginning of great things and great commitments to the people of our church and the Sango community.
Jill Whittinghill has decided to stay on staff in the capacity of Adult and Men’s Choir director and director of our Bell ministry. She has served Sango UMC faithfully for many years and is now refining her role so she will be able to serve in a more focused manner. This is exciting for our church family as Jill is loved dearly by everyone and we are so glad she will remain with us.
On Saturday March 9 we will have a movie night in the CLC on the BIG screen which is 18’ X 18’. The movie will be War Room and we encourage you to come and bring family and friends. It will be a free event and there will be snacks and drinks for free as well. Make it a family night and enjoy time together. The movie will start at 6:30 pm.
Twice a year we plan to have a joint worship service together so we can get to meet and know each other as our church is growing so fast there are many people who have been attending regularly and joining the church in each service we do not know each other. This service will focus on worshipping the Lord but also have an extended time to meet and introduce yourself to people you do not recognize. That time is not for greeting those you have known for a while.
On Friday April 22 we will have a Seder Meal in the CLC at 6:30 pm. Please let us know if you plan to attend so we know how much food to purchase. It will be free and there will also be a children’s Seder Meal in the main building.
Saturday April 23 we will have a memorial service for Dr. Linda Fletcher. Linda attended Sango UMC as a youth and was a vital part of this church for many, many years. She passed away recently and her family will be coming back to Sango to honor her and celebrate her life. It would be a wonderful gesture if we could pack the pews in memory of a lady who meant so much to this church years ago. There will be an update on the time of the service in a few weeks. Watch your bulletin or call the church at 931-358-2552.
Live like Jesus!
