Parish Nursing

Sango has been offering the Parish Nurse Ministry for the past six years. Many people do not know what Parish Nursing is. Hopefully this will help you understand how the Parish Nursing Ministry offers a service to Sango.

A Parish Nurse is a Registered Nurse with advanced education in Parish Nursing. Parish Nursing is not hands on nursing beyond blood pressure screenings. We do not do any treatments, give injections or personal care of any kind. Parish Nursing Ministry advocates and facilitates wholistic health. (wholistic health is defined as physical, emotional, spiritual, relational, vocational and environmental well-being).

A Parish Nurse is an educator, health counselor, and health referral agent. She works closely with the pastor in caring for the needs of the church. She visits homes of shut ins, hospitals, assisted living facilities and nursing homes. She offers assistance as needed and evalulates the needs of those she visits and then discusses with the pastor how we an be a caring church and meet their needs. She organizes volunteers and works with a coordinator to see how we can help shut-ins with their needs. We offer health screening every two years with lifeline screenings. Classes are offered as requested by church members and grief classes are offered twice a year. Assistance can be offered for those that need financial help either thru the church or they can be assisted in getting help thru state assistance programs. The list can go on and on but maybe this will give you some idea how a Parish Nurse Ministry can help us show the community that we are a loving and caring church.
