Glossary

Administrative Board
(Church Council)
The church council shall provide for planning and implementing a program of nuture, outreach, witness, and resources in the local church. It shall also provide for the administration of its organization and temporal life. It shall envision, plan, implement, and annually evaluate the mission and ministry of the church. The church council shall be amenable to and function as the administrative agency of the charge conference.
Charge Conference   The charge conference [is] organized from the church or churches in
every pastoral charge as set forth in the Constitution
[of The United Methodist Church]. It shall meet annually.
Staff Parish Relations   The staff-parish relations committee has primary responsibility to work
with both appointed and lay staff. They should have a clear
understanding of the mission and vision of the local church, built upon
the mission of the wider Church, which is to make disciples of Jesus
Christ. They work closely with the District Superintendent about
congregational needs.
Trustees   The Board of Trustees is responsible for supervising and maintaining
all physical property of the local church. The committee ensures that
the House of the Lord is kept in a way that is honorable to God.
A physical plant that is cared for is welcoming, safe, and more
hospitable than one that showns signs of neglect.
Building Committee   The building committee plans for the future growth and development
of the church's physical campus by reviewing and implementing plans
to construct facilities that enable the vision and ministry of the
congregation and the greater Church.
