John the Baptist prepared the way for the Lord. He preached a message of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The Bible, in the book of Mark chapter 1, tells us the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him and confessed their sins and were baptized. All of John’s efforts were necessary for when Jesus arrived to preach the good news of God the people would be receptive to his preaching. It is not unlike that today. We as members of Sango UMC must prepare the way for the Lord. We do this in a variety of ways. We live our lives in a manner that people may see our good works and give glory to the Father. We talk in a manner that people may desire to know why we have joy in our lives. We give of our finances and our time to serve the risen savior so that others may have a new life built upon the promises of the Lord. These are things we know and understand as believers in Jesus Christ. We do not always find ourselves exercising this belief in our daily lives as we should.
For the last 3 years Sango UMC has been preparing for people who do not attend our church to be here, before they have actually come to worship here. We did not need a parking lot when we built the upper lot in November of 2013 but we did build it so it would be ready to use when new people did come to worship and serve the Lord. We did not need to renovate the Christian Life Center and prepare it for a new worship service in February of 2014 because we had a place to worship already, but we did renovate it and start a new worship service for people who had not yet come to worship and they have come to worship and serve the Lord. Some may argue that we did not NEED to renovate the fellowship hall in the main building for people who are not attending any of our service to worship the Lord but now that it is completed it is now up to date and looks wonderful. It adds a new dynamic to our ability to reach new people for Christ. The one thing we have not done to this point is prepare more space for Sunday school to teach and learn about the risen savior. The sad thing is while we have grown in every area over the past three years we have found one area we have not grown, Sunday school attendance. Sunday school is one of the main areas we use to teach people about Jesus Christ and His love.
I have asked much from you the people and members of Sango United Methodist Church ever since I have arrived as your pastor on June 23rd, 2013. I now am asking for, most likely, the biggest opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of people who attend our church and for those who do not yet attend here, a difference that will change their lives now and for eternity. We need to join our 2 buildings together and build a 2 story education wing for Sunday school and our youth. This will cost approximately 1 million to 1.2 million dollars. I am asking each person and/or family to make a one-time sacrificial gift to the building fund that will change our community and our world for the cause of Christ. Our goal is to begin construction of the building in the spring of 2017. I do not believe in leading this church into the future hampered by financial concerns that will not allow us to do ministry in the manner God would have us to do. With your faithfulness we can make this plan a reality. The building is not the plan. The plan is to share the good news of God with as many people as possible. Constructing a place to put this many people is why we strive to achieve the building. As we move forward into the future may you be able to say you were part of changing how we share this good news. In 50 years will you be able to say, “I was part of making this happen?”
All we need to do this is the following:
$500,000+ Building Fund (Balance with all the gifts we are expecting)
300 Families, Sponsors , Clubs or Fundraising Events give a one-time donation of $2500
100 Families, Sponsors, Clubs or Fundraising Events give a one-time Pledge/Donation of $5000
60 Families, Sponsors , Clubs or Fundraising Events give a one-time Pledge/Donation of $2500
50 Families, Sponsor, Clubs or Fundraising Events give a one-time Pledge/Donation of $1000
5 Classroom Naming Sponsors give a one-time Pledge/Donation of $10,000
Live like Jesus,
