Sango Area Lively Senior Adults at Sango United Methodist Church:
In 2002 about 20 senior adults gathered to discuss starting a ministry geared for their age group. Those present discussed what they enjoy doing and decided to meet monthly for food, fellowship and adventure.
The first outing was to Shoney's Restaurant. The group met there for breakfast and reviewed proposed events for the rest of the year. They also agreed on a name - Sango Area Lively Senior Adults (SALSA)! S
ALSA is an apt name for the group, because they have been very "lively!" The group doesn't always meet on the same day or at the same time. Some still work full-time and other hold volunteer jobs during the day. To accommodate them, some outings are planned for nights and weekends. What everyone shares is that they are senior adults, both men and women, who enjoy fellowship with one another.
Participants in SALSA enjoy exploring the surrounding area and have traveled in every direction. The group has headed north to Glendale, Kentucky for lunch at the Whistle Stop Restaurant and to Trappist, Kentucky to visit the Abbey of Gethsemani. They have gone south to Bell Buckle, East to Adams, and West to Fort Donelson. They have enjoyed trips to many other destinations, as well as sampling all that Clarksville/Montgomery County has to offer. Wherever they go, we try to find a good restaurant, because they like to eat! During the past six years the group has seldom been to the same place twice, and there are many more locales that they plan to visit.
SALSA is a great way for senior adults to make good friends and enjoy warm fellowship. While the group is based at Sango UMC, all seniors are welcome to join. For more information, call the church office at 931-358-2552.
